WOLLONGONG'S financial crisis has prompted some bookmakers to shut down NBL wooden spoon markets.

Yesterday TAB Sportsbet confirmed wooden spoon betting would be suspended for the rest of the season because of uncertainty surrounding the Hawks.

The Hawks are expected to see out the season but the club will be forced to fold before 2008-09 unless a new owner is found.

Wollongong (6-14) were listed at $3.50 before the market was frozen, while Singapore (4-20) were the favourites at $1.30.

Perhaps the best bet would've been the South Dragons (4-17) at $11. The Melbourne-based team appears to have thrown in the towel.
